Current advances in mass spectrometry contribute to popularization of high-resolution mass spectrometry in various scientific fields. In the last decade, screening and identification of chemicals of emerging concern by mass spectrometry are attracting attention in the environmental chemistry community. High-resolution mass spectrometry can offer new research methods also known as suspect screening and non-target analysis in the environmental chemistry. Many compounds overlooked by the current management of chemicals were identified by the methods. These methods can complement the current efforts to control chemicals.
