Due to the high polarity, short-chain fatty acids are difficult to analyze with LC-ESI-MS, therefore various derivatization methods have been reported. However, there are few analytical methods for polycarboxylic acids with multiple carboxy groups. Therefore, we synthesized a novel derivatization reagent for polycarboxylic acid. This derivatization reagent has high reactivity and ESI efficiency, and multiple introduction of the reagent into analyte gives higher ESI efficiency. Therefore, the derivatization reagent was particularly effective against polycarboxylic acids.
