The proto-oncogene c-kit mapped to the white-spotting (W) locus located on chromosome 5 in mice encodes the receptor tyrosine kinase (KIT). The Signaling pathway of KIT and its ligand, stem cell factor (SCF) has pleiotropic effects on melanocytic and hematologic development. Through MALDI-IMS in combination with shotgun proteomics of W/c-kit mutant mice, we have demonstrated KIT restriction on hair follicle proteome.
