In order to avoid the isobaric interference of 87Rb on 87Sr for 87Sr/86Sr isotope ratios, an analytical method has been developed using ICP-MS/MS, which can remove this interference inside of the instrument. Precise 87Sr/86Sr ratios were obtained by the internal correction of mass discrimination with 86Sr/88Sr through an adequate control of the ion-molecular reaction in the collision/reaction cell by optimizing the O2 flow rate and the kinetic energy of ions, without standard-sample bracketing techniques required in previous studies. Established technique was applied to several rock samples with various Rb/Sr ratios, ages and major element compositions, and consistent results with conventional methods were obtained in wide range of 87Sr/86Sr ratios.
