The vulcanization reactions of polybutadiene (PB) were studied by MALDI-MS using DCTB and AgTFA as matrix and cationizing reagents, respectively. In the MALDI mass spectra of the model samples of valcanized intermediates prepared with low-molecular weight butadiene rubber (L-BR), peaks of the components containing one or two sulfur atoms bonded to L-BR chains were observed in addition to those of original L-BR. Based on the difference in the observed mass spectra of the intermediate samples obtained under various conditions, the vulcanization mechanisms of BR were discussed with considering the data observed by various such as Py-GC/MS, NMR and SEC.
