The primary structure of polymer consists of monomers and two end-groups. The structural analysis of the polymer is important to understand its function, synthetic process, quality control, degradation state, etc. Various types of analytical instruments such as Py-GC-MS, LC-MS and MALDI-TOFMS are used for polymer characterization. High mass accuracy MALDI-TOFMS and high-energy collision-induced dissociation (HE-CID) MS/MS are useful for polymer end-group analysis. However, it is difficult to identify which end-group is contained in the product ion series. Therefore, we tried to label one end-group using deuteration for a detailed analysis of the HE-CID product ion spectrum.
