Foreign matter contamination and product alteration are among the most serious problems in the manufacture of industrial products. Although conventional analyses such as FT-IR and X-ray fluorescence are the powerful methods for analyzing these problems, they do not often lead directly to the cause of the trouble. DART-MS, on the other hand, is an excellent method for analyzing a wide range of substances, from liquids to solids, with little concern for the effects of the base material. In addition, the identification of the causative substance can be made more convincing by knowing the mass, and even if one is not familiar with mass spectrometry, fingerprinting the spectrum often leads to the elucidation of the causative substance. In this presentation, we will report on several examples of industrial product analysis utilizing DART-MS.
