LC/MS is widely used for both qualitative and quantitative analysis, especially for biological samples such as proteins and drug metabolites, due to its high qualitative ability and detection sensitivity. Phosphate buffer has long been used as a mobile phase in HPLC because of its high separation ability and detection even at low UV wavelengths. However, it is well known that phosphate buffer cannot be used for LC/MS measurements. We have previously developed a desalination tube that uses an ion exchange mechanism to enable on-line LC/MS measurements even under phosphate buffer conditions. In addition, we have developed an automatic changer of the desalination tubes for continuous analysis.
