We gained a new insight of detection sensitivity improvement by using ammonia eluent in LC-ESI-MS/MS. We compared ESI and APCI in the analysis of tocopherols and estradiol using ammonia and formic acid eluents. In the analysis of tocopherols, using ammonia eluent, the detection sensitivity was improved by more than twenty times compared with APCI. Also, the detection sensitivity was improved by more than five times compared with APCI in the analysis of estradiol. The analysis of phenolic compounds by LC-ESI-MS/MS with ammonia solvent was more sensitive than that by LC-APCI-MS/MS.
