斜め蒸着により作製したTiNナノピラーを用いた高質量たんぱく質分子のイオン化
We demonstrated that titanium nitride (TiN) nanopillar arrays prepared by the dynamic oblique deposition of titanium followed by thermal treatment in ammonia vapor function well as an analytical substrate for matrix-free laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS). A wide range of analytes, such as a drug, sugars, and bio-related materials were detectable with low levels of noise interference. The detectable mass limit using TiN substrates is 150 kDa (Immunoglobulin G: IgG), which is comparable to the best result previously reported matrix-free LDI-MS. Electromagnetic and heat-transfer simulations were conducted to investigate the observed LDI performance using TiN nanopillared substrates. The localization of heat on the tips of the TiN nanopillars was demonstrated in the simulations, suggesting that synergism between the intrinsically lower thermal conductivity of TiN and reduced light reflection due to the pillar morphology enables a significant enhancement in LDI performances.
