Omics analysis is characterized by its ability to convert biological information of a sample into numerical information without arbitrariness due to its comprehensiveness. This feature is suitable for understanding the effects of compounds, including unrecognized aspects, and is expected to contribute to solving problems in drug development related to unrecognized effects. The variability of the omics data can be interpreted as a multivariate describing the complex actions of small molecule compounds, and the latent expression is expected to correspond to the basic actions of the compounds. We have proposed the concept of "decomposition and understanding" of the complex effects of low-molecular-weight compounds using a latent variable model with omics data as input during the treatment of low-molecular-weight compounds. In this presentation, we will outline the above strategy and present a series of research results focusing on the detection of potential toxicity of marketed drugs and the understanding of the effects of natural products, which we have conducted as proof of concept.
