Stable compositions and geometrical structures were examined for oxide cluster ions of group 3 metal elements (Sc, Y, La) by ion mobility-mass spectrometry combined with quantum chemical calculations. As stable compositions of MnOm+ cluster ions, the following species were dominantly observed in the mass spectra: MO(M2O3)x+ and MO2(M2O3)x+ for odd number of M atoms [n = 2x+1], and (M2O3)x+ and O(M2O3)x+ for even number of M [n = 2x]. The M6O9+ ions have stable structures in which one O atom locates outside the octahedral M6O9 unit for M = Sc and Y, whereas the excess O atom was inside the unit for M = La.
