Development of Femtosecond Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer based on Ion Trajectory Simulation

Femtosecond laser desorption/ionization has gained attention in recent years as a relatively new ionization technique in mass spectrometry imaging. Most of the femtosecond laser applications in mass spectrometry use multiphoton absorption and ionization in a high electric field. To expect to achieve mass spectrometry with highly efficient, non-thermal, and non-destructive ion desorption/ionization. We are developing a time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer using the ultrashort laser pulse as a desorption/ionization source. We used CsI as a sample. We analyzed the initial velocity distribution of emitted ions based on trajectory simulation in the electric acceleration field which is calculated by the surface charge method. We evaluated emitted ions’ initial velocity distribution from analysis of ion TOF spectra.
