Fragment ions observed in positive-ion field ionization (FI) mass spectrum of methyl stearate were analyzed by high-accurate time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The aliphatic (CnHm) and acylium (CnHmO) fragment ions can be explained by field- and radical-induced dissociations, respectively, while methyl ester (CnHmO2) fragment ions can be rationally explained by the rearrangement reactions based on the concepts of low-internal energy mass spectrometry with low-activation energy/entropy processes
