Surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization (SALDI) mass spectrometry with metal film as UV-absorbing nanostructured materials is a useful technique for analysis of non-conductive samples. It is difficult to analyze the samples using matrix-assisted desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI/MS) with time-of-flight mass spectrometer because of a charge-up effect caused by the non-conductivity. In this study, we investigated the MS imaging method for non-conductive samples with non-uniform surface. Furthermore, the relationships between surface structure of the metal film and the ion yields for the SALDI/MS were evaluated.
