Behavior of polyoxymethylenes (POMs) was investigated in electrospray ionization-ion mobility spectrometry-tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-IMS-MS/MS) with sodium salts as cationization regent. Linear and cyclic POMs were successfully identified by IMS. In MS/MS measurements of cyclic POM, not only linear but also cyclic fragment ions were observed. We investigated about the details of the MS/MS fragments, comparison of drift time between intact and fragment POMs, and additional experiment with potassium salts, and concluded that strong interaction of Na+ with POM formed pseudo-cyclic structure.
