Intramolecular proton transfer reaction of protonated aminobenzoic acid in an ion trap induced by collision with ammonia was examined by cryogenic ion mobility-mass spectrometry. A complex ion of protonated aminobenzoic acid with ammonia was observed only when the ion trap was cooled with liquid nitrogen. This complex ion was concluded to be an intermediate of the vehicle mechanism in the proton transfer reaction from the structural assignment in the measurement of collision cross section.
