3次元モデル組織を用いた薬物イメージング
Conventional mass spectrometric analysis using tissue extraction precludes determining information on their spatial distribution. On the other hand, mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a feasible technique to visualize drugs, metabolites, and so on. However, there are a lot of challenges to perform MSI in animal and human tissues due to ethical problem. Especially, EU and other countries have banned testing cosmetics on animals. Recently, MSI using three-dimensional (3D) model tissue to evaluate drug delivery/efficacy is one of the attractive applications as alternative specimens. Based on this background, research group including mass spectrometrist, chemist, and basic biologist has been established in Osaka University (Fig. 1). This approach is still novel, therefore in this presentation, I would like to present literature based current status of MSI using model tissue (especially, CTOSs: cancer tissue-originated spheroids).
