Rapid identification of carotenoid ester isomer in the yellow flowers using LC-PDA-MS/MS
We developed the rapid identification method of neoxantihin ester and violaxanthin ester in the yellow flowers using LC-PDA-APCI-MS/MS. The same fragment pattern was observed for neoxanthin and violaxanthin in the MS/MS spectra of the [M+H]+ ion as the precursor ion. In contrast, the fragment pattern from the [M-H2O+H]+ ion of violaxanthin ester was different from that of neoxanthin ester. The fragment ion of C7H8 (92 u) elimination in the MS/MS spectrum of dehydrated violaxanthin ester was produced characteristically via electrocyclic reaction.
