Analysis of recycled PET yarn using MALDI-TOF MS and Comprehensive Accelerating Degradation

Plastic recycling is one of the significant issues for achieving SDGs. Polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) is a consumable polymer that is already regularly recycled and reproduced into many products, such as clothing fibers. In MSSJ2024, we reported an analysis of PET fibers derived from commercial clothing. Although the discrimination of the recycled fibers from the virgin fibers was successful, the reason was unclear, and it was speculated that degradation was one of the causes. Here, we report the MS analysis of virgin and recycled PET yarns as a model of degradation using accelerated degradation.
