Ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) combined with mass spectrometry (MS) has been established as a powerful method for structural analysis. However, for larger ions that cannot be detected by MS, tandem IMS has been used, but the sensitivity and resolution of IMS are still insufficient. To extend the potential of IMS, we have been developing an IMS system based on ion trap. Here we present an ion-trap IMS system combined with optical and fluorescence measurement systems. Using this system, we investigate the ionization processes in electrospray ionization.
