There is a growing demand for PFAS analysis in environmental samples (both liquid and solid) with EPA 1633 becoming the foundation method for this type of analysis. This gives associated analytical method performance criteria and there is a need for a robust tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer to deal with the variety of challenging matrix types for this methodology. Even though EPA 1633 describes a solid phase extraction (SPE) stage for all sample types, these matrices, at the point of introduction into an LC-MS/MS system, are far from “clean". This work presents how a new novel slotted bandpass ion guide combined with a high sensitivity tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer can improve signal robustness and increase method reliability.
