SIMPLIFIED PFAS IN WASTEWATER ANALYSIS THROUGH AUTOMATION, RETENTION TIME CONFIRMATION, AND HIGH RESOLUTION FULL SCAN DATA

As PFAS testing demand is increasing, more testing options are necessary to fit global needs. In the US, EPA 1633, promulgated last year, provides a manual SPE-based method of testing non-drinking waters to low ppt sensitivity. Compared to traditional nominal mass analyzers, high resolution mass spectrometry has the advantage of increasing the confidence of identification for targeted methods, especially in samples with high matrix interferences like wastewater. Specifically, PFOS and TDCA share a transition in nominal mass resolution and elute in proximity in most reverse-phase chromatography. We are simplifying and improving analyte confirmation by choosing to use two retention times and multiple high resolution precursor ions for identification.
