Direct sampling mass spectrometry of samples on a petri dish using sheath-flow probe electrospray ionization (sfPESI)

In this study, an automated mass spectrometry system using a sfPESI probe was used to perform automatic sampling for several biological samples placed on a standard Petri dish for high throughput analysis with a linear ion trap mass spectrometer. The performance of the direct sampling and ionization by this system was evaluated for its potential in the discovery of useful substances produced by microorganisms.
