Scorpion venom contains various bioactive peptides that show insecticidal, antimicrobial or hemolytic activity. Bl-3 is an insecticidal peptide isolated from the venom of the north African scorpion Buthacus lteptochelys by bioassay-guided RP-HPLC fractionation. In this study, we determined the structure of Bl-3 by Edman degradation and de novo sequencing analysis. As a result of sequence database search, Bl-3 shares sequence similarity to scorpion α-toxins, which act on Na+ channels.
