Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI/MS) with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer is a useful tool for investigating distribution of biomolecules. However, it is difficult to analyze non-conductive materials due to charge-up effects in the MALDI/MS. We have proposed surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (SALDI/MSI) using thin metal films that could add conductivity to the sample surface. In this study, the correlation between the thickness of the sample and the shift of m/z value was evaluated.
