Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a technique to visualize the localization of molecules on the surface of planar samples such as biological tissue sections using m/z information obtained from MS, and has attracted attention in the fields of pharmacokinetic analysis and disease-related marker discovery research. In MSI measurements, samples such as biological tissues are generally frozen and then thinly sliced, but there are some samples that are difficult to process in this way. One example is the surface analysis of plant leaves and flower petals. In addition, the freezing and thinning process requires a long time after the sample is collected and is technically very difficult. If there is a simplified method, the use of MSI is expected to expand. Examples of MSI of plants and foods using transfer plates which newly developed by Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. will be presented.
