Gold resinate, a reaction product of Au chlorides with balsam sulfide yielded by the reaction of balsam (main componetns are α-pinene, abietic acid and etc.) with sulfur, has been used for long time to decorate pottery and crafts. The chemical formula and composition of gold resinate have not been clarified yet. In this study, we analyzed gold resonate in electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) combined with ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). In 2D heat map of m/z and drift time, the compounds containing Au metal were successfully separated from the organic components without Au. The MS/MS measurements for the compounds with Au reviled that they were mainly composed of Au, S, and α-pinene-related units. In addition, the isomers of gold rasinate was separated by IM, and they were identified as the compounds composed of Au, S, and abietic acid.
