ProstaglandinD2 (PGD2) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), that are two major cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) products, are generated by PGD2 synthase (PGDS) and PGE2 synthase (PGES), respectively. PGs have a variety of biochemical and physiological functions, including inflammation and allergy. Tetranor PG metabolites, PGDM and PGEM were shown to be a major urinary metabolite of PGD2 and PGE2, respectively, and to reflect their biosynthesis. Determination of urinary PGDM and PGEM is useful for the assessment of these functions. There are two ways for collecting urine of mouse. It's possible to collect urine using a metabolic cage. Besides, urine absorbed in papers is an easy way of collecting, shipping and storing urine samples. We examined prostaglandin metabolites (PGDM and PGEM) in two kinds of urine samples using LC-MS/MS.
