There are only 413 entries of Plasmodium falciparum proteins in the SwissProt database (uniport_sprot.fasta, October 2022 edition). When searching the database of P. falciparum protein sequences extracted from UniProtKB, we were able to identify two variants of PfHSP70, but when using only the SwissProt database, only PfHSP70-1 (HSP70_PLAFA) was identified. The search using NCBInr was also able to identify two types of variants, but compared to the search using UniProtKB, the search time was 58 times longer, even when searching only for malaria parasites. Currently, the extracted UniProtKB database is useful for accurate identification of malaria parasite proteins.
