Mass spectrometry imaging of cardiac tissue donated by a patient with human dilated cardiomyopathy was performed using t-SPESI measurement system. Lipids localized in the fibrotic region and widely distributed in the myocardium were visualized. We found that the ion signal intensities of lipids presumed to be acylcarnitines were greatly decreased in cardiomyocytes near the fibrotic region.
