Establishment of Comprehensive Assessment of Food Function System Based on Mass Spectrometry Data
Obesity is a recognized risk factor for serious disorders. Therefore, avoidance of obesity helps prevent serious lifestyle diseases. We have been searching in food for activators of PPARα (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α) which is well known as a master regulator of lipid metabolism. In the previous study, we identified several food ingredients as PPARα activator. Our and other studies reveal that various functional ingredients exist in foods. However, enormous unknown ingredients are included in food. Metabolome analysis created by recent mass spectrometry and digital technological innovation is a powerful tool of comprehensive metabolites analysis. We reported that mice plasma and liver metabolome analysis reveal up-regulation of palmitoyl lysophosphatidylcholine [LPC(16:0)] during PPARα agonist treatment. We also revealed that LPC(16:0) actives PPARα in hepatocytes and has the ability to recover glucose uptake in adipocytes. At present, we try to establish the new system of comprehensive assessment of food function (CAFF) based on enormous metabolites information and health functional evaluation. We believe that this system contributes to health promotion.
