Ion Mobility in cooled He Gas and the Atmosphere

(Tokyo Metro. Univ.)

Ion mobility in gases is one of traditional research subjects in fundamental atomic and molecular physics. For various ions and gases, the mobility measurements had been performed by many research groups in the last century. However, the activity of fundamental research on ion mobility has moved to the ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) as a powerful method for the chemical analysis. In Tokyo Metropolitan University, we have still continued the mobility measurements for small ions in cooled He gas at 4.3 K to reveal low energy collision dynamics. And we had also worked for the development of a handy IMS apparatus operated in the atmosphere for detection of chemical warfare agents.
