Mass spectrometry is a powerful method to observe the degeneration of the biological sample (amino acids or protein). In the present study, mass spectra of arginine were measured by using the surface-assisted laser desorption / ionization mass spectrometry using carbon nanowalls (CNWs) as a surface support material. Arginine signal was not detected on Si substrate and CNWs/Si without sample, but it was detected in CNWs/Si with sample. It was suggested that CNWs were effective in SALDI-MS.
