A novel matrix-free laser desorption/ionization method, Desorption Ionization Using Through Hole Alumina Membrane (DIUTHAME), is tested for ability to conduct imaging mass spectrometry. A device based on through hole alumina membrane is used instead of MALDI matrices to cover sample surfaces and subjected to imaging mass spectrometry measurements on a commercial MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer. The results indicate the possibility of DIUTHAME applied to imaging mass spectrometry.
