Interpretation of Metabolomics Data from Metabolism and Mass Spectral Database

(Kyoto Univ.)
oTakaaki Nishioka

Metabolomics and its related technology have developed to successfully analyze the metabolite profile of model microorganisms and plants. From the metabolite profiles of mutant plants, mutant genes responsible for the production of specific metabolites were identified. Biomarkers to detect the patients suffering from a side effect of medical treatment were identified. Nowadays metabolomics are applied to the patients for finding the cause of the disease. However, interpretation of the data becomes more difficult as more metabolomics data are accumulated. The cause of the difficulty will be discussed from the viewpoint of metabolic pathway network and mass spectral database.
