Although crystalline sponge (CS) was developed to determine the structure of non-crystalline compounds by X-ray crystallographic analysis, it is revealed that the CS could be also used as a laser desorption ionization field to ionize the guest molecules encapsulated in the CS framework. In this work, we discuss the possibility of structure determination base on mass spectrometric approach, detection of the molecular ion and the fragmentation by using CS. X-ray analysis with the conventional CS approach also assisted the results. A piribedil having electron-rich back bone was used as a guest molecule. The molecular ion peak was detected in CS-LDI MS and the crystal structure in CS was also confirmed.
