Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) presents a practically useful analytical tool for detecting biological molecules. In MALDI method, the formation of the matrix/analyte crystals is one of the important factors which influence the quality of the mass spectra. We have recently reported a new matrix material 5-amino-1-naphthol (5,1-ANL) which is suitable for MALDI-ISD experiments of intact proteins. In this study, we report the MALDI-ISD imaging using different ANL isomers and discuss influence of the formation of the matrix/analyte crystals on the ISD phenomena.
