End group modification of polyolefin with precise polymerization technique has been widely demonstrated recent years, targeting to provide new function to the polymer keeping with conventional properties. In order to comprehend the reaction mechanism and the contribution to the polymer property, determination of chemical structure of the end group is indispensable. In this study, a detailed end group characterization of modified polyethylene has been attempted by using high resolution MALDI spiral-TOFMS. In addition, pyrolysis gas chromatography/TOFMS and multivariate data analysis were applied concurrently to compensate the information of the fragment chemical structure.
