Identification of carotenoid esters in ornamental yellow flowers using LC-PDA-MS and NMR
In this study, identification of carotenoid pigments contained in ornamental yellow flowers were performed with LC-PDA-MS and NMR measurements in order to show clearly the crossbreeding history of yellow flowers. First, the presence of carotenoid neoxanthin skeleton was confirmed from the NMR data of the saponified petal extract. Then, using on-line C30 column separation and high resolution mass spectrometry, the carotenoid pigments were identified that their esters are dimyristate and myristate-palmitate, dipalmitate.
