Consideration of MALDI mechanism based on the spatial distribution of energetic DHB molecules in MALDI plume
Neutral DHB moelcules in the MALDI plume were probed using a pulsed VUV laser post-ionization at 118 nm wavelength. DHB+ and [DHB-H2O]+ were mainly observe in the MALDI-VUV spectra, and the relative intenity of [DHB-H2O]+ to DHB+ were found to vary depending on laser delay and VUV laser position. that is spatial position of the plume. This result indicates that a fraction of DHB with high internal energy was large at the tip of the plume. This spatial distribution of energetic DHB suggests that the initial desorption mechanism of DHB molecules from the crystal by UV laser irradiation is desorption by the phase explosion, resulting in the non-equillibrium at the tip.
