We focused on urinary free-glycans as potential tumor markers. Free-glycans were extracted from the urine of normal controls, pancreatic, gastric and lung cancer patients and labeled with 2-aminopyridine. The structural analysis of the glycans were performed by liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The amounts of the glycans were compared between healthy controls and cancer patients by selective reaction monitoring (SRM).
Several free-glycans, including N-glycan-fragments and extended glycans with lactose/N-acetyllactosamine- core were increased in some pancreatic and gastric cancer patients.
