Microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) emitted from Aspergillus nidulans were investigated using Head Space-SPME/GC/MS, and the effects of modified expression of some sesquiterpene biosynthesis genes in the genome of A. nidulans were analyzed. In strain LO8910HA-pyrG2, a part of AN3280 gene upstream was eliminated from LO8910. The eliminated region seemed to surpress transcription in the parental strain LO8910. 7-epi-neopetasone, which is an intermediate of PR-toxin, was detected in LO8910HA-pyrG2 as reported previously in LO8925. We also found that LO8910HA-pyrG2 can produce a new sesquiterpene MVOC.
