In general, electrospray is generated continuously by applying DC high voltages. In this study, electrospray was studied by applying pulsed high voltages with duration between 200 ns and 1 ms. The pulse and offset voltages were applied to an acupuncture needle inserted to an electrospray emitter (tip i.d 4.0 µm) by using a fast high voltage transistor switch coupled with two power supplies. It was confirmed that electrospray was surely generated within 100 µs by applying offset voltages that were lower than the threshold voltage for the generation of continuous electrospray.
