Photobleaching is one of the phenomena that hinders the effectiveness of photodynamic diagnosis and therapy (PDD/PDT); a cancer diagnosis and treatment technique. We used electrospray ionization mass spectrometry to investigate the photobleaching coefficient β during PDD/PDT. Fluorescence-based investigation of the photobleaching under the same conditions was carried out, and the obtained results were compared with the mass spectrometry-based β value. Variations in the β values from the two investigations were observed, although both β values were within the literature range.
