Eosin Y is a dye used in cosmetics. This dye is known for its bright red color, which fades or changes in different environments. According to research, the bromines in the structure of eosin Y has a lot to do with the color of eosin Y1). To understand what happens to the structure when the color transformation occurs, we performed two experiments. Collision induced dissociation of ions examined by mass spectrometry and the UV-VIS absorption spectra was measured. The ESI-QIT mass spectrometer used to see the dissociating process of bromines and the spectrophotometer used to check the pH dependency of the photoabsorption for eosin Y. From these experiments, we were able to understand the dissociation of bromines, and the different absorption wavelengths in different pH environments are due to the structure difference of eosin Y.
