We analyzed free oligosaccharides (fOSs) in human plasma by a combination of sialic acid linkage-specific alkylamidation (SALSA) and MALDI-TOF MS. Using this method, 78 peaks corresponding to fOSs containing high mannose- and complex-type fOSs were detected.
