Here we have developed a novel protocol for imaging mass spectrometry of human cardiovascular tissues. By using formalin fixed paraffin embedded biopsied samples, we have succeeded in visualization of peptides and proteins of the tissues with on tissue trypsinization. Comprehensive visualization of abnormal deposition of various peptide species was enabled with multivariate analysis. Furthermore, it is promising that this technique can identify unknown factor(s) regulating pathogenesis of the disease yet to be defined. Through these advancements, interinstitutional comparison must be the next step as well as antibody based validation for each biomarker candidate.
