MULTUM-FAB質量分析計のさらなる小型化検討および精密質量測定

Fast atom bombardment (FAB) is one of the ionization methods in mass spectrometry. FAB is a soft ionization method and can produce ions even from crude samples. This is an advantage to other ionization methods such as MALDI and ESI, which need purification before measurement. Because of the huge size and low scan speed, the number of magnetic sector type instrument with FAB has been decreased.
A miniaturized high performance multi-turn Time of flight (TOF) mass spectrometer with a FAB (MULTUM-FAB) has been developed. Resolving power and mass accuracy of this instrument are as high as those of magnetic sector type instrument although the size is much smaller.
In this research, further miniaturization of MULTUM-FAB has been achieved and accurate mass measurements were measured by using this machine.
