Human C-peptide which consists of 31 amino acids is secreted from the pancreas with the equimolar insulin to the blood. Immunoassays for plasma and urinary C-peptide are well established as the routine measurements, However, the lack of reference material and reference measurement procedure affects the comparability between immunoassays during routine C-peptide measurements. To achieve the traceable measurements for C-peptide measurement, we have developed C-peptide certified reference material (CRM) by amino acid analysis and the method for highly sensitive analysis of serum C-peptide by LC-MS/MS covering the reference interval. We present here the above two topics, the development of C-peptide CRM and the application to serum C-peptide quantification.
